Subject
Societies Act, Civil Society
Summary
West Coast Environmental Law sounded the alarm around section 99 of the proposed Societies Act, which would allow for members of the public to take a society to court where the society is alleged to be acting "to the detriment of the public interest." As a result of that research, West Coast Environmental Law worked with several other organizations to draft and circulate a letter to the government objecting to the proposed provision. 50 organizations eventually signed on to the letter, which also received coverage in the Globe and Mail and elsewhere.
