In December 2018, the BC government introduced its new climate plan – CleanBC – which includes a number of important steps to help reduce the province's greenhouse gas emissions and move toward a more sustainable economy. Of particular note, the CleanBC plan includes strong accountability mechanisms that will help to ensure the plan achieves its goals.
This letter, sent by eight organizations to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, explains how elements of CleanBC can serve as a model for federal climate policy. The organizations call on the federal government to incorporate similar accountability measures into the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change, to ensure continual progress in efforts to meet our international climate targets.
