Environmental Law Alert Blog - Comment Policy

West Coast Environmental Law welcomes your comments on our Environmental Law Alert blog. This blog allows us to get immediate feedback on our perspectives and ideas, gather information, and to create a forum for public discussion of environmental law in British Columbia.

However, we ask that you please abide by this comments policy.

Comment moderation:

The Environmental Law Alert blog is fully moderated – including comments, trackbacks, and pingbacks. We will try to review and approve comments as quickly as possible; however, please understand that there may be some delay if we are unavailable or busy.

Language, tone and format:

While we are interested in hearing a wide range of perspectives, West Coast Environmental Law strives to maintain a professional and respectful atmosphere on our website and this blog. We will not approve comments, and reserve the right to delete or edit comments, which in our opinion:

  • Contain abusive or threatening language directed against individuals, groups or organizations;
  • Contain profanities or are otherwise offensive;
  • Are off-topic and not related to the blog posts; or
  • May be defamatory or libellous.

West Coast Environmental Law strives to provide non-partisan information and analysis. We encourage commentators to likewise focus on the laws, policies, ideas and issues we discuss, rather than using this blog as a forum to make ideological attacks on particular political parties, political figures or philosophies.

Please keep comments to under 500 words.

The content of all comments are the responsibility of the poster, and not West Coast Environmental Law or its staff, or other contributors to the Environmental Law Alert blog. By submitting a comment, you represent that you are the author of the content and agree to hold West Coast Environmental Law and all subsidiaries and representatives harmless from any and all damages, liability, costs of defending an action or other repercussions.

You retain copyright on any materials you post. However, by posting a comment you give West Coast Environmental Law a perpetual right to post, publish, comment on, or otherwise make use of the content of the comment.

Privacy:

It should go without saying that the content of any comments submitted will be publicly accessible. DO NOT post anything that you do not want to be publicly available. West Coast Environmental Law and its staff have no obligations, under solicitor-client confidentiality or otherwise, to keep confidential information posted in a comment.

To protect your own privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include phone numbers or email addresses in the body of your comment. Be aware that anything posted to the blog can be reproduced and published elsewhere.

For more information see West Coast’s privacy policy.

Name field and identification:

If you make a comment you will be asked for your email addresses. Your email will not be shared or published on the blog. On occasion we may use the email to contact you privately.

We ask visitors to use real names or a usual nickname in the "name" field. If we suspect that you are using targeted keywords in your name field, we will edit or delete your comment. Similarly, no URLs or anchor text should be used in the name field.

Consequences:

As a general rule, the main consequence of failing to follow this policy is that we will not post the offending comment(s). However, an egregious or ongoing failure to abide by this policy, as it reads currently or as amended from time to time, may result in you being blacklisted from making comments on the Environmental Law Alert Blog and other sites run by West Coast Environmental Law.
